The heart of The Mason Jar, owner Cathy Frith has created a store experience that goes far beyond shopping. Dreaming for years of blending her creative backgrounds - fashion and interior styling - with a love of building community, Cathy’s decision to open the boutique was prompted by the passing of her father, and with that, a deep sense of right timing.

The bond of family runs strong through The Mason Jar, which has been shaped in many ways by each of the four generations, including Cathy’s grandson, the store’s namesake. As such, customers are welcomed as family, an aura of warmth, kindness, and belonging enveloping all who enter.

With a keen eye for buying and merchandising, Cathy brings her chic yet approachable style to women of all ages while championing home-grown brands and products. She also confirms that “there is no age restriction on following your dreams,” and is keen to foster more encouragement between small businesses, especially women-owned.

Loving nothing more than building relationships with her customers, Cathy’s magnetic authenticity is reason enough to visit The Mason Jar. Yet, shoppers are equally sure to spot many unique and special items that spark memory and joy.

She loves working alongside daughter Cathy, and has a knack for making customers feel right at home. Balancing the shop, family time, and travel - Nashville is next in line - Marilyn stays busy in her signature style: traditional with an edge!

Darilyn Alexander, Boutique Manager

A former Junior Olympic Archery gold medalist, Darilyn is funny and joyful, with ever-evolving style. This mother of three loves cultivating personal relationships, and believes that plenty of candles go a long way in creating cozy, family-friendly spaces. Her perfect day starts with coffee and a good book in bed, followed by an invigorating workout to fabulous music.

Meet the Team

Tucker, Store Greeter

A sucker for a belly rub, Tucker loves the attention he gets at The Mason Jar, his home away from home. Happy to greet customers with a wag of welcome, he also prides himself in his excellent distraction skills, keeping children entertained so that moms can shop in peace! This schitzu-maltipoo may be small, but he sure packs a lot of wisdom and heart.

Looking forward to meeting you!

Elaine Webber

Born in Belfast, Northern Ireland, Elaine came to Canada at age 24 on a 2-week vacation. During that time she met her future husband, and never left! Elaine enjoys having family and friends around her, gardening, doing jigsaw puzzles, and having a glass of wine at the end of the day. Although a bit of a home bird, Elaine would one day like to travel with her first stop being Ireland.

Lily Alexander

As a full time university student, working at The Mason Jar gives Lily a break from her study sessions. Working with her lovely mother, Darilyn, is also a plus. In her free time, Lily is an active part of the community, volunteering at the Oceana Parc Playhouse. Lily strives to do her best in anything she does and is sure to welcome everyone with a friendly smile.
